ATTENTION 2013 PARTICIPANTS: (An email was sent to each participant as well; please check your email for the full announcement.  Names have been removed from this announcement)

Congratulations again on having your work accepted to this event, we are getting very excited about Saturday!  A few reminders:

  • The event will be held this Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Please come first to the Meridian Ballroom of the Morris University Center to register. We will tell you where to go from there.  You will have from 8-9 a.m. to register, find your presentation location, hang your poster with sticky tack (if applicable, see the note below), and otherwise prepare to present.  All participants need to return to the Ballroom promptly at 9 for the Welcoming Remarks by SIUE Chancellor Dr. Julie Furst-Bowe.
  • It is crucial that you arrive to our campus on time (8:00 at the latest!) so that you have ample time to find the correct location to park (Visitor Parking Lot B, maps available on the STLAURS website), arrive at the Morris University Center, check in, and set up for your presentation.  Please also note that parking will be somewhat limited that day due to a conflicting event; arriving early should ensure a good parking spot.  Parking in Lot B is free on Saturdays.
  • For those of you presenting posters without an easel, your posters will need to be hung with sticky tack (which we will provide).  This will not damage your poster, but it does take some time to apply, so again, please be sure to be there by 8:00 in order to have enough time to get set up!  And remember not to affix your poster to any form of heavy backing or it will be too heavy to hang!
  • Only those who previously requested an easel will have access to one.  If you are using an easel, you DO need to affix your poster to heavy backing so it will stay up on the easel.  An additional easel will be provided for the STLAURS ISB.  At this point, we have assigned all of our easels; please don’t request one at this point, as we have no more to assign.
  • Those of you who requested display tables will have them provided.  At this point, we have assigned all of our display tables; please don’t request one at this point, as we have no more to assign.
  • Free bus transportation for students in St. Louis is being provided courtesy of Washington University.  Please see transportation tab for more information about this service.
  • A light continental breakfast (doughnuts and coffee) will be served that morning, and a sit-down lunch will be provided in the afternoon.
  • Awards include a $300 First Place, $200 Second Place, $125 Third Place, and a $75 Honorable Mention prize, and everyone will receive a participation certificate. Presentations will be judged by a panel of interdisciplinary judges from many of the participating schools.
  • Oral presenters:   Please send your Power Point presentation to Elisabeth Jones (elijone@siue.edu) as soon as possible, but by no later than Wednesday,April 24.  Please also bring your talk on a flash drive as a backup, just in case.
  • Dress:  Business casual.
  • For up-to-date information or announcements about the event, please be sure to check the website frequently.

We look forward to seeing you Saturday!

The STLAURS Planning Committee is proud to present the 2013 St. Louis Area Undergraduate Research Symposium, an annual event held each spring that allows undergraduates from seven outstanding St. Louis area universities the opportunity to present their research results in a professional setting. Any undergraduate student from these institutions who has conducted research with a faculty mentor is invited to submit an application and abstract.

STLAURS provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the research and creative projects of their peers, speak to the attending university faculty, and receive both wisdom and inspiration from the invited speakers.  This unique event is a collaboration involving Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, St. Louis University, University of Missouri at St. Louis, Webster University, St. Louis College of Pharmacy, and Washington University in St. Louis.
